In 1973, advertising executive David McCall noticed that his son knew all of the lyrics to all of the Beatles’ songs but couldn’t seem to memorize the multiplication table. With the help of Tom Yohe, George Newall and jazz pianist Bob Dorough, McCall created a musical animation “Three is a Magic Number” and sold the concept to Michael Eisner who, at the time, was in charge of children’s programming at ABC-TV. “Schoolhouse Rock” ultimately became an Emmy award-winning series of educational animated song spots, which ran during Saturday morning cartoon shows. They focused on grammar, math, science and history.

Singing for our Supper: A Fundraiser for Opera House Theatre Company

Opera House Theatre Company's "A Little Night Music" will perform songs from the Stephen Sondheim classic

In “Singing For Our Supper,” the cast of Opera House Theatre Company’s “A Little Night Music” (click here to read the review) will perform songs from the Stephen Sondheim classic, as well as from other favorite musicals. The performance is being done to raise money for Opera House’s current season.

A Little Night Music” completes the Sondheim trilogy for director Ray Kennedy, now co-artistic director of Opera House with Lou Criscuolo. With Thalian Hall scheduled to close soon for renovations, Opera House has moved to Level 5/City Stage. Kennedy, with an experienced and talented cast and crew, has adapted smoothly to the new venue. The theater in the historic Masonic Temple building is, of course, smaller than Thalian, which affects the scale of the stage, the lighting and the acoustics…
